“The Sleep Of Reason Produces Monsters”, a powerful new quartet - formed during Mariam Rezaei's residency at Café Oto in London in November 2023 - combines elements of jazz, noise, hip-hop, techno and new music to create a ferocious sonic storm.
Rezaei processes samples - Iranian vocoder melodies, doom guitar riffs, screaming saxophones, booming drums - while Mitelli wildly plays trumpet, operates his noise boxes and intones cosmic chants. Rasmussen combines precision with intensity and enters into a musical dialog with Rezaei and Mitelli, while Koenig experiments with breakbeats and free jazz abstraction.
