Just how multi-layered the music of Berlin-based saxophonist Silke Eberhard can be is demonstrated amply by the XL version of her Potsa Lotsa project. Intelligent chamber music themes, placed subtly, intricate rhythms, countless moods and tensions and copious space left for the personalities of her fantastic colleagues to find expression. Allusions to classical modernity, to the jazz tradition of the 1950s and 60s are situated matter-of-factly next to energetic outbursts and lyrical purity. Eberhard, whose playing indicates intensive study of Ornette and Dolphy, is here absolutely in touch with the times.
