aerosolo #7 – Richard Scott
In Richard Scott’s music, a whole host of influences cross-pollenate in a compelling way. Originally inspired by various types of electronic music of the early 1980s (Scott himself names Stockhausen as an example), he later encountered numerous protagonists from the world of free improvisation. In addition, he engaged in intensive exploration of Indian and West African music, learned to play saxophone with no less a teacher than Steve Lacy (!) and pursued studies in electro-acoustic and acousmatic theory and practice. Scott puts this rich background in service of his energetic performances, which communicate above all his boundless enthusiasm for experimental sound.
