Improvisers in Residence Celebrate Successful Hand-Off Concert

The chamber music room at the Moers city music school was packed for the hand-off concert of the outgoing and incoming improvisers in residence. John-Dennis Renken took the stage for the final time as improviser in residence, this time in a duo with Cologne-based drummer Christian Thomé, and was met with thundering applause and bid farewell amid accolades from the audience (“You were a gift for Moers!”). Josephine Bode followed with her Amsterdam-based art-rock band Jerboah, pulling the room into their hypnotic groove and inspiring the audience to clap along with their rock and pop sounds. Alongside the international line-up of her ensemble, featuring drums, guitar, a lead singer and three flautists, Josephine Bode was already able to demonstrate impressively what sort of musical surprises her primary instrument the recorder is capable of. More than 200 guests provided a warm Moers welcome for 2018’s improviser in residence.
